Ella Crawford Obituary: Brisbane, QLD Death: A Queensland teenager passed away from suicide last week. 12-year-old Ella Crawford was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted injury after being a victim of bullying.
According to her parents, Ella was bullied over time by female teenagers in her neighborhood and school. A cousin of Ella’s, Donna Crawford-Contor wrote; “My cousin Julie’s beautiful Ella succumbed to relentless bullying and took her own life last week. This has to stop!! We need to be teaching our children that this needs to stop. She was only 12, and Julie’s only child.”
What Happened To ELLA Catley-Crawford? Hear her story:
Ella was a bright and quirky 12-year-old who faced unimaginable challenges. Starting the year with an academic scholarship to a prestigious girls’ school in Brisbane, her joy was short-lived. After just one term, she became the victim of a cruel catfishing scheme orchestrated by girls who preyed on her vulnerability. They shared her personal photos across social media, leading to bullying, isolation, and the start of a difficult mental health journey of trying to fit in.
SOCIAL MEDIA BULLYING IS REAL If you ask if we are angry—yes, we are. If you ask if we are sad—absolutely. And if you ask if the system let her down—it did. This catastrophic reality has changed our family’s history forever. Social media and online presence pose real dangers, and despite our efforts to keep our children safe, technology can become an addictive lifeline, especially when they feel isolated.
Tragically, Ella felt like she was the problem and, on October 27th, she took her own life. In her final act of kindness, Ella was able to donate her organs through Donate Life, giving the gift of life to others —a testament to her compassionate spirit. She was the only daughter of Brisbane resident, Julie Crawford.
