Liz Agosto Obituary, East Hartford CT Death: The Bronx, New York-born and White River Junction, Vermont resident, Liz Agosto has unexpectedly passed away. She died last week after a medical emergency. Elizabeth Lee Agosto was the Dean of Students at St. Mark’s School.
It’s with great sorrow that we write about the sad passing of our former DOSA colleague Liz Agosto ’01, who died unexpectedly on Friday, November 1, 2024. Liz was a passionate advocate for undergraduate students and an extraordinary colleague who is remembered fondly by all of those who had the privilege to know her.
Who Was Liz Agosto?
Elizabeth Lee Agosto was born in the Bronx, New York. Throughout her childhood, her father’s army missions moved the family all over the world, including extended spells in Colorado, Texas, Germany, New York, and North Carolina. Her parents split when she was seven, and she and her mother moved to East Hartford, Connecticut. In 2001, she graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in sociology and a minor in education
During her undergraduate studies, she worked to pay for her education while also serving as a social activist on campus. In her senior year, she served as president of the Casque and Gauntlet Senior Society. She went on to earn a master’s degree in sociology from Fordham University. In 2007, she returned to work for the Collis Centre for Student Involvement in a nine-month temporary post, after which she was offered a position as Associate Director.
She collaborated with Samantha Ivery to create the First-Year Student Engagement Program for first-generation college students, which drew the attention of the newly appointed Dean of the College Charlotte Johnson. In 2011, she was appointed Special Assistant to the Dean of the College. Elizabeth Lee Agosto, Class of 2001, is the Associate Director of the Collis Centre for Student Involvement and Special Assistant to the Dean of the College, Charlotte Johnson. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Liz is remembered with great affection and fondness by colleagues across campus, by the students who recognized that she cared deeply about their well-being, and by us who were lucky to work alongside her. She was thoughtful, brilliant, and cared deeply about making a difference at Dartmouth.
Through her tenure, Liz mentored many teams and current leaders in Student Affairs. Her impact on our work, our relationships, and our love for Dartmouth endures to this day.
